Can the 846TQ-R900B be run without a motherboard and CPU? ie. Running a SAS expander on the back of the chassis with cable to HBA on another box?

With the SC846TQ-r900 chassis does not have expander support. You need to use SC846Ex-xxx series chassis that had expander support.
