Since Supermicro no longer supports IDE on the X8 series mainboards, we are forced to use SATA slim DVD drives. These DVD drives use a 6-pin SATA power receptacle, rather than a standard 15-pin SATA receptacle. I need a short cable to connect these DVDs to all the backplane CD-ROM/Floppy PWR connectors.
If I use MCP-220-81502-0N to convert an IDE DVD, it is very cumbersome, time-consuming, and needlessly expensive. Also, IDE slim DVD's are being discontinued in the market.
If I use the very long CBL-0282L, it's also very cumbersome, time-consuming, and needlessly expensive. Also, many machines do not have an extra MOLEX connector to attach to, so you then end up needing to add a branched MOLEX cable.
Please advice.
You need to order our slim SATA DVD and MCP-220-81502-0N. The slim SATA DVD has mini-SATA in the back, and MCP-220-81502-0N includes a backplane to convert from mini-SATA to regular 7pin SATA and 4pin power connector. Customer needs to install this backplane on the DVD first.
MCP-220-81502-0N also includes one 7-pin SATA cable to connect to the motherboard for signal and one 4-pin power extension.
Depending on which chassis you use, you may need the brackets from MCP-220-81502-0N to install in the chassis.
