I put an Intel 2.4GHz P4 in your P4SGL board and got a "Memory Fail" warning, but with a 1.8GHz P4 the board works fine.

You are probably using a 533MHz FSB P4 processor in the P4SGL. The P4SGL is based on Intel's 845GL chipset, which only supports 400Mhz FSB CPUs, so you must use a 2.4GHz processor with a 400MHz FSB.
