Question
I was updating X10SLQ BIOS and ME with following procedures and found ME cannot be upgraded. What should I do to proceed the upgrade?

1.Decompress BIOS zip file to a DOS bootable USB key.

2.Insert the USB key to the system and boot to DOS. Run Ami.bat x10slq3.509 to update BIOS and ME.

3.In the next boot, once I saw the supermicro logo, I pressed “DEL” key to enter BIOS menu.

4.enable the option “ME FW image re-flash” in “Advanced” -> “PCH-FW Configuration” -> “Firmware Update Configuration”. “save & exit” after the setting is done.

5.Boot to DOS and Run “Ami.bat x10slq3.509” to flash BIOS & ME again.

6.The ME upgrade stopped with a message “a1 – Error : BIOS does not support ME entire firmware update.”
Answer
A: The correct procedure to update ME & BIOS for shark bay workstation and desktop platform including X10SAT, X10SAE, X10SLV, X10SLQ, C7Z87, C7Z87-OCE should be as following.

1.Decompress BIOS zip file to a DOS bootable USB key.

2.Boot up the system and enter BIOS menu.

3.enable the option “ME FW image re-flash” in “Advanced” -> “PCH-FW Configuration” -> “Firmware Update Configuration”. “save & exit” after the setting is done.

4.Boot to DOS and Run “Ami.bat x10slq3.509” to flash BIOS & ME.

5.After the update finished, shut down the system.

6.Boot up the system to a boot device then the upgrade is done.


In your step 3 you have to wait for the system to finish its boot up process and then reboot the system and enter BIOS menu to do the change.

1.Decompress BIOS zip file to a DOS bootable USB key.

2.Insert the USB key to the system and boot to DOS. Run ami.bat x10slq3.509 to update BIOS and ME.

3.In the next boot, wait until the system boot to DOS. Reboot the system.

4.Press “DEL” key to enter BIOS menu.

5.enable the option “ME FW image re-flash” in “Advanced” -> “PCH-FW Configuration” -> “Firmware Update Configuration”. “save & exit” after the setting is done.

6.Boot to DOS and Run “Ami.bat x10slq3.509” to flash BIOS & ME again.
