Question
I have a 6012L-6 SuperServer and I’m attempting to connect to the IPMI management on this server with the IPMI View V1.32 software that was included with the IPMI kit. We have installed the IPMI board into the server, and have successfully run the IPMI View software; however, we are unable to connect to the server on the login screen. When we try to connect, the status bar is left with the message "Cannot communicate with ''". We've connected the network to LAN1, as suggested in the user's guide. We have also tried this connection with the system powered up as well as with the system powered down. Any ideas that you can provide as to what to try from here would be great.

Answer
First make sure you flash the IPMI card with the correct firmware. The CD that comes with the IPMI kit can be used to boot up and load the correct firmware. If you are having problem booting up with the CD, please download the firmware file on this link. Please use the P4DLR.exe file
After you finished flashing the firmware; next, you need to update the IPMI card with the correct IP and MAC address for the LAN that is used to communicate with the IPMI viewer. Please read the User Manual on this link for how to update the IP and MAC address.
User Manual After you finished these two steps and then you can use the IPMI viewer to communicate with the IPMI card.
