Question

Customer running nVidia vGPU S/W with VMWare 6.7 in SYS-1029GQ-TVRT.  When trying to upgrade from nVidia-VMWare-450.124-1OEM.670.0.08169922.x86_64.vib to nVidia-VMWare-460.73.02-1OEM.670.0.0.8169922.x86_64.vib, the new module installed OK but the module will not load with the following error message in dmesg log.

ALERT: NVIDIA: module load failed during VIB install/upgrade.

Answer
After detailed information investigation, the root cause is customer's VMKernel patch too old.  ESXi 6.7 to support NVIDIA vGPU requires patch build 17167734 or newer.  Customer's patch is 15160138.  After customer upgraded the patch, the issue resolved.
