The 3ware 9650SE-12ML RAID controller supports I2C(Inter-Integrated Circuit). The SC847A chassis backplane was set to SGPIO (Serial General Purpose Input/Output), so I switched it to I2C, but it didn't help. In the RAID BIOS, none of the cards detected an enclosure, and F4 did not blink drives.
When searching documentation for 9650se with respect to I2C, I ran across this document:
http://www.3ware.com/support/UserDocs/I2C_MUX_Connections_7_2_08_Final_720-0181-00.pdf
Could this multiplexer be what I need? Would it work for the SC847A backplane?
The I2C MUX will only work with SuperMicro 846TQ & 826TQ chassis backplane. All cables are included in the package.

The cable shown above will not work with the 846A/826A backplane due to the different I2C header (TQ is HDR2x4, A is IPMB). To make it work, an additional cable or a different backplane is required.
The suggestions are:
1. To replace the 826A/846A backplane to the 826TQ/846TQ backplane.
2. To request another cable from 3Ware to work with our A backplane, if available.
