Question
Supermicro Support team,

I have a Supermicro RAID card "AOC-S3916L-H16iR" configured in my server system along w/ 10 SAS drives.
Although the controller is in an Optimal state, I failed to create a RAID 10 array w/ all my drives, either through BMC WebGUI or via BIOS menu.

Could you help?

Answer
Hi,

Supermicro AOC-S3916L-H16iR utilizes Boadcom SAS3916 RAID controller.
For RAID 10 configurations, Broadcom firmware enforces a strict requirement:
The total number of drives must be a multiple of 4 (e.g., 4, 8, 12, 16, up to 32 drives), and each span must contain an even number of drives.

Therefore, you will NOT be able to create a RAID 10 array with 10 drives.
We recommend reconfiguring your RAID 10 array with either 8 drives instead.

FYR, this same requirement applies to all Broadcom 12Gb/s MegaRAID-based embedded AOCs, such as SAS3908, SAS3808/3816, and SAS3108, etc.
