Intel spec for gigabit LANs has stated that 82544GC controller cannot be supported in Solaris 8, only 82544EI can. I noticed that on your P4DPR-6GM+, the controller is 82544GC. Does this mean this gigabit LAN will not work in Solaris 8?

No it does not. The controller we use on this board is 82544GC Server Adapter. Thus, it will work in Solaris 8.
